This decade is looking to be one of many changes, some of which we have the opportunity to participate in and to challenge. Children are one third of our population and the most important asset of our Nation. However, the Health of these children is jeopardized by life-threatening emergencies which in turn increases the mortality and morbidity rate in our country.

Children requiring emergency care have unique and special needs. Nurses working in pediatric unit experience the challenges of caring critically ill children taking every ounce of skill to overcome. Accurate assessment of a child with an acute illness or injury requires special knowledge and skills.

As technology and research in Health care expands, Evidence-based practice is becoming essential in delivering high quality health care to children in society. With the abundance of information easily available through website and journals, it is important that nurses become familiar with the available evidence and its application in providing care to children.
